MOBILITY SYMPOSIUM& APPLICATIONSPRING 2019 // LAYOUT DESIGN
[Brief] For the semester, design a symposium and booklet and mobile application for a mobility related topic. Booklet made with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Application made with Adobe XD.
[Research] This symposium is inspired by Michael Bull's piece Sound Moves which details how individuals interact with the city in the age of mobile devices and mobile music listening. The booklet features articles and influencers that advocate the role design plays in sound and urban environments. [Book Size] 8in x 8in, 0.5in margins all around, 6 column grid. [Design Elements] Name: "Absorb" is the right adjective to describe the engagement of sound design in urban environments as society navigates the city with the assistance of mobile music. Color: The navy and mustard combo presents a stark contrast and fluidity just like the busyness of the city paired with the calm of music. Typography: Headlines are displayed in Abril Fatface to represent the liveliness of the city. Body copy in Proxima Nova for easy reading and to mimic the digital age. [Challenges] I didnt find any sense of harmony with the design elements until a couple days before the completion of this project. The color pallete changed multiple times, the text alignment switched evey time I opened the document, and at times the grid hurt more than it helped. I had to trust the process and do the best with the time I was alotted. I stayed sane by looking at precedents, taking breaks, and sometime starting over (which ended up helping a lot). |
